Running Diary - Week 1
I’ve completed week one of Couch to 5k! I’ve mentioned before, technically I can already run 5k but at a very slow pace. So I wanted to complete the app upping my pace from the beginning so I can hopefully complete 5k in around 30mins. I felt confident starting but I actually found it quite hard - running faster definitely doesn’t come naturally to me (big boobs + short legs are not the best running accessories) but I did it, and didn’t totally hate it so we’re off to a good start.
Week one is 60sec running, 90sec brisk walk for 20 minutes. You need to do a 5min walk at the beginning and at the end so it’s 30mins in total. You repeat this run 3 times, they recommend having a day break in between so I did my runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I did the first 2 after work - normally working out after work puts me off because I just want to have dinner and chilllll but as this is only 30mins I didn’t mind just getting it done quick before dinner. It also got me out of cooking... win/win.
I ran down on the seafront which helped keep me distracted whilst I was running as there’s so much going on and it seems to feel cooler down there due to the breeze. You can also see everything in the distance so I set myself little targets to get to before the 1 minute timer was up. I have a weird thing that helped too when I was feeling really out of breath, I found that by turning my head to look at the sea somehow made me feel less breathless. Sounds weird but maybe try it and see if that works for you too - or if I’ve just made it up in my head. Either way, I like that it works! So yea, if you see a small red tomato running and looking in the wrong direction - that’s me!
I’m weirdly looking forward to week 2, I like how quickly I should be able to feel my fitness improving so that’s keeping me motivated for now. I found run 3 much easier than the first run - and that was down on the seafront in gale force wind so I feel like it’s working well for me so far.
I’ll be back next Sunday to tell you how I got on with week 2! As always, any tips for me will always be gladly received!
