BIG MAC RECIPE

So hard to take a good looking burger pic

We made Big Macs for dinner last week! They were so good! Not completely like a true Big Mac to be fair but a very good (and super quick) version of it. We followed the Proper Tasty recipe here but made a couple of changes as we are both gherkin-phobics.

FOR THE BURGERS:

1 small pack of beef mince
Salt + pepper
3 burger buns
Cheese slices

FOR THE SAUCE:

  • ½ cup mayo
  • 1 tsp white vinegar (we only had white wine vinegar)
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (we added a bit extra)
  • ½ tsp white pepper
  • 1 gherkin, diced (we skipped the gherkins because, ew)

FOR THE SALAD:

  • Diced white onion
  • Finely shredded lettuce
  • Thinly sliced gherkin (again, we missed this part)

ALL YOU NEED TO DO:

Roll the mince in your hands to create a burger (finger thick, bigger than palm size), sprinkle with salt and pepper and fry on one side for a few mins - turn over and fry the other side until dark and crispy (crispy isn't the word I was looking for but you know what I mean). Now add a slice of cheese on top so it goes all melty. Do this for 4 burgers.

Whilst they're cooking away, make the sauce. Literally just mix all the ingredients in a bowl and voila! We tasted ours and added some extra paprika and vinegar but just add whatever (if you think it needs it). We also shredded the lettuce and diced the onion whilst the burgers were cooking.

For the buns, we bought seeded burger buns. Cut two in half, and with the third bun we cut the seeded top off and cut the rest in half again for the middle bits. Unnecessary calories in my opinion but Ollie insisted haha. You just put these into a dry pan until slightly golden and then its already to assemble!

The recipe we followed said that the sauce was only enough for one burger but we had loads for two burgers.
